About the Anthem Vineyard
Anthem Wine Company is situated on 85 hectares
in the spectacular Gibbston Valley, Central Otago. Established
in 2003, 85% of the vines are Pinot Noir, this is supported
by plantings of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Sauvignon
Blanc.
Our Pinot Noir is a mix of the 6 best performing
clones in our region, the vines intensively managed to provide
fruit with the finest structure and character possible. Block
location and orientation in our vineyard was carefully planned
to maximise the light and heat interception for the plants,
and utilise the natural contour and aspect of our gentle slopes
and ancient river terraces.
Soils are a combination of light loams, alluvial
and loess material over deep freedraining river gravels. With
rainfall normally around 500 mls per year, the vineyard is
fortunate to have very low disease pressure. Hot days and
cool nights stretch into autumn giving a desirably slow and
even ripening, perfect for capturing expressive Pinot Noir
aroma and flavour.
Our winemaking utilises traditional methods
to encourage expression of our unique soils and site, which
are yielding exquisitely perfumed, complex and elegantly structured
wines. Anthem Vineyard has been under sustainable management
for 3 years, currently working towards accreditation, and
aiming to implement a complete organic regime in one block
later this year as our entry to organics.
