Manaiakalani Education Trust has spent 20 years supporting learners in communities underserved by New Zealand’s education system. From its beginnings in Tāmaki, the programme has grown into a national model reaching more than 30,000 learners across 120 schools, with evidence of improved achievement and measurable social return.
To support its long-term future, the Trust set out to establish a $100 million+ Perpetual Fund. The fund is designed to create financial independence, reduce reliance on annual philanthropy and help the programme continue operating at scale. The Trust needed investor materials that clearly explained the opportunity to philanthropists, business leaders, family offices and major funders.
Anthem was charged with developing the case for support. We identified the opportunity to explain the wider context behind the ask, including New Zealand’s changing demographics, persistent education inequity and the role the Manaiakalani programme could play in improving outcomes for learners. Spotlighting the programme’s track record – its 20-year history, national reach and reported social return of more than $10 for every $1 invested – needed to be conveyed to a discerning investor audience in a clear and credible way.
Anthem developed the core pitch assets, including an investor presentation, a 90-second impact video script and an investor leave-behind report. We also managed the design and production process, refreshing the look and feel while retaining key Manaiakalani brand elements.
The finished investor pack gave Manaiakalani a clear set of materials to use in critical conversations. It presented the Fund as a long-term investment in education equity, workforce readiness and New Zealand’s future resilience, while keeping the programme’s learner impact at the centre. To date, the Trust has raised $9 million towards the Perpetual Fund.
